Hans Kunstovny was born in the Styrian village of Jauring, and received his basic musical training in Bruck/Mur in the disciplines of piano, bass and accordion. He later studied with Ludwig Streicher at the Vienna Hochschule and graduated with honours. At the same time, he was a member of the Capella Academica in Vienna. From 1977 to 2010, Hans Kunstovny was the Principal Bass of the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim. He has had a longstanding working relationship with the Mainzer Virtuosi and Taiwan Connection. Hans has toured extensively in China, Japan, Taiwan, USA and throughout Europe, and has appeared in many renowned concert halls such as the Musikvereinssaal in Vienna, the Gewandhaus Leipzig, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Salle Pleyel in Paris and Suntory Hall in Tokyo amongst others.

Hans Kunstovny is also active as a composer. Self taught, he has received many awards and honours from such as the Tagen Neuer Musik Innsbruck, the Carl-Maria-von-Weber Competition in Dresden, and at the Ensemblia-Competition Mönchengladbach. His works for choir, orchestra, solo instrument and chamber music in different forms has been performed throughout Europe and in Japan.

Hans Kunstovny now resides in Vienna.

Kunstovny Hans, 1947 im steirischen Jauring geboren, erhielt seine musikalische Grundausbildung in Bruck/Mur ( Klavier, Kontrabaß, Akkordeon), bevor an der Wiener Musikhochschule bei Ludwig Streicher ein Kontrabaß-Studium absolvierte, das er mit Auszeichnung abschloß. Zu dieser Zeit war er Mitglied der Capella Academica in Wien. Von 1977 bis 2010 war Kunstovny Solobassist des Südwestdeutschen Kammerorchesters Pforzheim. Eine langjährige Zusammenarbeit verbindet ihn mit den Mainzer Virtuosi und Taiwan Connection. Jetzt lebt er wieder in Wien. Eine rege Konzerttätigkeit führte ihn mehrfach nach China, Japan, Taiwan, USA und durch ganz Europa. Er trat in so berühmten Konzertsälen wie dem Goldenen Musikvereinssaal Wien, im Gewandhaus Leipzig, der Berliner Philharmonie oder der Salle Pleyel in Paris und der Suntory Hall Tokyo auf.

Als Komponist ist er Autodidakt. Für seine Kompositionen erhielt er Auszeichnungen bei den Tagen Neuer Musik Innsbruck, beim Carl-Maria-von-Weber-Wettbewerb Dresden und mehrfach beim Ensemblia-Wettbewerb Mönchengladbach. Die Werke für Chor, Orchester, Solo- und Kammermusik in unterschiedlichsten Besetzungen  und vor allem sehr viele Instrumentationen erlebten Aufführungen in ganz Europa und besonders in Japan.
