Royce Richert has studied the violin with Martina Smazal for the last five years. Since the age of 3, he knew that he wanted to play the violin and has studied the instrument since he was 5. Royce enjoys presenting a piece in the true spirit in which it was written and also plays the piano, which fuels his creativity.
Winner of numerous competitions at the Kiwanis and Richmond Music Festivals and receiving several scholarships, he was given opportunities to study the violin abroad, in Germany, Michigan and New York. Royce has had the privilege of being the concertmaster of the Vancouver Youth Junior Symphony, where he also won the Concerto Competition. He gave his first solo recital at age 10 and has spent time exploring the world of chamber music. He volunteers at a local care home, playing the violin and piano, and gives of his free time assisting younger VYSO musicians.
Royce has performed at both public and private events, most recently the Habitat for Humanity National Conference, where he played for dignitaries. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, and likes going to amusement and water parks. Royce aspires to achieve great heights in music and is thankful to have already found what he would love to do in his life.
